Corners of the Fields
|
| In the past many cultures have developed the custom of reserving at least a small part of the harvest for those in need. In Judaism, for instance, there are many laws regarding the ways in which the harvest must be carried out. Traditionally it was required that the "corners of the field" be left unharvested and any grain that fell had to be left for those less fortunate to glean. It was understood that it was not merely a good deed to share in the bounty but an obligation. While we do not leave the corners of our fields unharvested, for the last several years we have tried to get our extra produce to folks who need it.
Currently very little fresh food makes it out to the food shelves and assistance programs in Minnesota. Virtually none of it is organically grown. During the growing season we will be making weekly deliveries of fresh produce to food shelves in the area and your contribution will help us to do more.
